Here at the Larder, we pride ourselves on often being the first opportunity for local makers to see their products on store shelves. Being a woman-owned and predominantly female-run business, we also take pride in championing female makers. International Women’s Day is on Sunday, March 8th and we want to take this time to feature some of our favorite products that are also made by women!

Made right here in Brooklyn by Candice Ross, the founder and owner, BRINS jams are unlike any other you’ve had! The perfect marriage between fruits and spices, each jam communicates a feeling and a place. We use BRINS on some of our most beloved sandwiches, like our staple Almond Butter & Jam and on our delicious house-made biscuits.
Founded by Joan MacIsaac and Irene Costello, the two met while taking a cooking class together. Effie’s Homemade was inspired by Joan’s mom, Effie MacLellan, and her recipe for oatcakes. Effie grew up in a rural town in Nova Scotia and it was here that her mom taught her how to bake oatcakes in a wood-fired cast iron. Passing the tradition down to her daughter, these cakes are a pantry staple that just taste like home. Perfect with a hot cup of tea in the afternoon or as a late morning snack.
Laurie & Sons
Based in East Harlem, Laurie & Sons is run by Laurie Pauker and her three sons! They make all kinds of candies and treats but their specialties are toffees and bonbons. A Larder favorite is their ginger toffee that has the perfect amount of salty, sweet, and ginger flavors.
We are so incredibly proud to be a champion of female makers and we consider ourselves lucky to get to work alongside such creative and passionate women. This International Women’s Day, take the time to recognize female artisans, entrepreneurs, and all boss-ladies by supporting their businesses and being a champion yourself.
