National Root Beer Float Day 2019 - 8 Best Beer and Gelato Pairings

3rd Aug 2019

August 6th is National Root Beer Float day, and while we don’t have root beer we do carry craft beer and make in-house, seasonally flavored gelato. It’s the perfect dessert for beating the Brooklyn summertime heat . Check out our top 8 craft beer (or cider/kombucha!) and gelato float pairings below.

1.) Coconut Gelato + Evil Twin Brewing Even More Coco Jesus

Evil Twin Brewing’s Even More Coco Jesus is an American Imperial Stout with added maple syrup and coconut. The syrupy, coffee tones of the stout pairs beautifully with the creaminess of the gelato, while the coconut notes in both the beer and gelato help bring the entire float together. Fun fact- Evil Twin Brewing was started by Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergso, the identical twin brother of Mikkel Borg Bjergso, the founder of Mikkeller Brewery; hence, the name: Evil Twin Brewing.

2.) Honey Blood Orange Gelato + JuneShine Hard Kombucha Blood Orange Mint

JuneShine Blood Orange Mint is brewed with honey and green tea and has an ABV of 6%. This kombucha paired with our Honey Blood Orange is pleasantly citrusy and slightly tangy. The green tea notes in the kombucha helps to balance out the creaminess of the gelato.

3.) Roasted Plum Gelato + Left Hand Brewing Company Peach Beerllini Radler

The Peach Beerllini Radler, made with pale malts and peach nectar, is lightly sweet and refreshingly effervescent. Our Roasted Plum Gelato helps bring a depth of flavor to the Radler, while complimenting its juicy, citrusy notes.

4.) Orange Sorbet + Sloop Brewing Juice Bomb IPA

The Juice Bomb IPA has full hop flavors, just without the bitterness, and with extra tropical juiciness. Paired with the Orange Sorbet and enjoyed on a hot summer day, you’ll likely finish this float within a matter of seconds. Think of an adult creamsicle!

5.) Chocolate Hazelnut Gelato + Harviestoun Brewery Old Engine Oil

Harviestoun Brewery’s Old Engine Oil is a English Porter. Porters (and stouts!) are perhaps the best, classic float-candidates because of their chocolatey, malty, viscous, nutty characteristics. The Old Engine Oil is particularly rich, chocolatey, and caramelly. It pairs wonderfully with our Chocolate Hazelnut Gelato. Almost like a boozy, bubbly affogato.

6.) Lemon Sorbet + Mikkeller Tweazy Duzit

This pairing is perhaps the most thirst-quenching float pairing in our list. The Mikkeller Tweazy Duzit is brewed with lemon zest, and the resulting beer is like a nuanced, adult lemonade. Paired with a scoop of our lemon sorbet, the Tweazy Duzit gets kicked up a notch- creamy, citrusy, and refreshing all in one go.

7.) Fior Di Latte Gelato + Barrika Cider

Think of apple pie and whipped cream! The Barrika Cider with our Fior Di Latte Gelato might be our personal favorite pairing on this list. A classic apple and cream flavor pairing that you truly can’t go wrong with.

8.) Chocolate Cake Ice Cream + Evil Twin Brewing Saigon Scooter Selfie

The Evil Twin Brewing Saigon Scooter Selfie is a Vietnamese Coffee-Inspired Stout with brown sugar and cream extracts. We suggest going particularly heavy-handed with the Chocolate Cake Ice Cream in this pairing. As the ice cream melts, it blends with the stout, creating an absolutely addictive creamy, milky, malty drink.
